Taped Dish Towels
Alissia Melka-Teichroew’s table linen originated with a meditation on borders. As she says, “We draw lines and perceive them as boundaries even though there is nothing physically stopping us from crossing them.”
The designer began experimenting with masking tape, creating networks of patterns. In tablecloth and napkins of Taped Linens, Melka-Teichroew superimposes the shape of tape pieces with their “jagged, imprecise” edges over the traditional checked patterns of woven damask. The result is at once elegant and edgy.
The Taped Dish Towels batches are all going to be different, as the pattern as the print is moved over slightly so that each batch will create a new series of Tea Towels.
